Competitions

Every competition is a new step.

Stepping onto the tatami for the first time, support from teammates, travelling to another city and the moment a child realises they can do more than they thought — all of this is part of competing. Results matter, but the experience a child takes away lasts longer than a single appearance.

A first competition stays with you

When a child steps onto the tatami in front of an audience for the first time, they learn more than how to demonstrate what they have practised. They learn to manage nerves, trust their hard work and support their teammates while waiting for their turn.

For one child, the biggest step is simply entering the competition area. For another, it is staying calm after competing or greeting a friend with a smile. Each of these moments is worth remembering.

What happens on the tatami?

At competitions, children have the opportunity to show what they have learned in training. They may compete in kata or kumite — different disciplines that require practice, focus and respect for the rules.

Kata

A sequence of movements demonstrating technique, rhythm and concentration.

Kumite

A bout with an opponent that develops judgement, control and sportsmanship.

Where competitions take us

Podgorica, Nikšić and Kolašin are among the places where our team meets other clubs. Travelling together, cheering each other on and making new friends often become memories just as lasting as the competition itself.

In 2024, the club took part in nine international tournaments. Each trip is a chance for children to gain experience, discover a new setting and return with the memories of another day spent together.

A medal is one part of the story

We celebrate medals and certificates, but behind each of these moments are training, team support and the courage to try. Even when a result is not what we hoped for, there is still an opportunity to learn something and move forward together.
